Many people have tried to scam me... For instance this one guy was selling a max. IDS for 20k, which already sounded too good to be true... but the catch was that he was giving out eggnogs as a "bonus". I began the trade as normal, he showed the blade, it was ok so I put in the money. Then he begins to ask whether I want the bonus, I said sure so he began modifying his offer... Now the blade was there and the eggnog... but wait, the blade wasn´t the same one anymore . I told him to put in the right blade when he accepted the offer but he was already ignoring me so I canceled the trade. These are the sneaky ones that people should be aware of.

All you need to do is check were the number is. If your asking for 45K... there are two places for numbers. One is for over 1k, the other is for less then 1k.
If your asking for 45k for something, glance and see were it says 45. Is it in the left or right section? When I sell something I always double check the location of the gold amount. I also pass my mouse over the object I am buying to make sure its the correct item and not some look alike.
Common theme with scams is someone caught you napping and you paid for it. Double check and take your time.

Well ok it's more like he scammed himself. Didn't think he'd be dumb enough to hit accept, and THEN offer more But I'm not complaining. I most certainly hope I wasted a lot of his time, and that's 10 less mursatt tokens he'll be selling for 5-6k's

LOL this is too funny.

1 of the 50 million monks at augury rock tried this on me,
gold max 15%^50 great axe for 9k i thought bargain even if it is an ugly axe.
He puts the axe up i put up the gold, he takes away the axe, puts it back, i check its the same axe. He takes the axe away again, puts it back but this time its a crappy one that looks the same and accepts. then says hurry.
If u double check the sale everytime the extra 20 seconds u spend can save u from being scammed.

Ok dude/everyone, i know that it was my fault that this happened to me, but im not making a big deal about it. Im just going to make sure that i do pay more attention now. When the guy did it to me, i wasnt going to yell at him all noob like (if he hadnt logged) cause i know that it wouldnt make a difference and there was nothing i can do.
I dont think that there is anything wrong with the trade system, the only possible solution would to have a popup message when you hit accept that asks if your sure you want to trade for that amount of gold. But that would be a bit tedious. People (like me) just need to slow down and pay careful attention to what they are doing.
FYI Maxie, im not a noob either, ive got over 350 hours which is enough to know better. I was just in a rush. I usually do pay more attention.

People offer me 20-100gold for expensive items all the time. Oddly, though, this generally happens when the buyers don't see them as being any good.
Why would you want to scam something off someone that you wouldn't be able to sell back?

People like you will never know the benefits of trusting others, I suppose. Sure, there are alot of Darwins out there, but that doesn't mean you should get to the point of irritating your buyers... People don't like being thought of as thieves, or as if at any second they are about to grab something and run with it.

one question: If this was reported to ANet do you think that they would actually do something. I mean, they probably get tons of reports like this every day.

YES
that is against the TOA (terms of agreement) and EULA under the subparagraph of creating conditions by your actions to make the game less enjoyable.
procedure is to contact customer support providing screenshots of scam, time (local) and area you were in at the time this happened to narrow where they search the logs.
you will not be informed of the outcome due to privacy but depending on seriousness and priors he/she could get a temp ban to closing the account .
as Gaile said we depend on people helping bring these people to our attention as we cant be watching everything
EDIT
THE ABOVE POSTER IS FLAT WRONG AS MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOST ACCOUNTS CAN VERIFY (IF THEY BOUGHT ANOTHER COPY)
here is a quote from GAILE GRAY TO VERIFY
Quote:
At the same time that I was reviewing the screenshot and email, the Support Team was also checking out the matter. From our reviews, 11 accounts were actioned. That's right: In one district, in a period that spanned fewer than 30 minutes, eleven (11!) people crossed the line and suffered the consequences with account blocks and, in one case, a very probable account ban.
Please know that we may not be everywhere, at any given time. But know that we are around, and we'll act if we see something bad going on. Know that we will take your reports seriously, for you can be our eyes and ears to the larger game world. And it is in all our best interests -- gamer, developer, publisher -- to make Guild Wars the best possible place to play.

and in case someone doesnt think scamming was part of that account action

Turn off chat filter. I did.
Cultural comments are considered cultural discrimination which is a criminal offence.
I know because i enforced that piece of legislation on a few morons who thought that because i am part german it was fun to make Nazi signs, to hail and etc in my presence.

Considering what you said then ANYTHING could be considered for a potential ban, those spamming trades in local channel, makes game less enjoyable.
They will no do anythign to the other guy. No action will be taken.
If he says 35 he does not have to mean 35,000 gold he can mean 35 gold. Precision is a big thing when it comes to ANYTHING legal or any other such thing.
Want a funny story?
When i first began to play the game, i had no clue there was anything other than gold so i thought 35k was 35 gold, in just post sear ascalon i did a trade as such the guy accepted and etc.... 10 minutes later my monk is sitting happily with his item the guy starts flaming over whispers... i inquire as to why he would do that he responds... in the end i got my 35 gold back & another 2K and i gave the guy his item back.
+
Nother time i was running around hekkid as a monk in ascalon arenas, harassing people with the /dance emote, i was bored, whaddaya want, something like 5 people reported me, nothing happened.
That subparagraph as you say it is VERY vague, VERY VERY vague, could mean that cause there are morons who wont give some of their secrets up are driving the economy sky high, which is making the game less enjoyable for avg. player.
Same goes for farmers and etc...
Please, next time you speak, think before doing so.

NOPE
YOU consider what you say.
1. they can literally do what they want to to police the game to keep it enjoyable for the majority of players.
simply because you dont see any harm in scamming people (its THEIR fault for not knowing better) does not mean Anet does not view it differently than you
2 that very vagueness is what also gives them complete leeway to crack down.

Don't pick at stupid things you know what I mean by gay attitude. But if it offends some people, I'll change it, no reason to get some idiot all fired up over 1 word like what happened in some old topic.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=119628 A mod deleted alot of posts (including mine) but some guy had the word gay in his post when he was talking about the bug abusers or something. Some idiot started pretending to be mature and de-railing the topic because he couldn't tolerate that kind of "homophobic" language. But his post encouraged alot of fools to further de-rail the topic and the ironic thing was if they just shut the hell up in the first place, less people would've known about the word "gay" in that post since there wouldn't be 5 quotes of it all over the topic.
